Playgroup

Our free playgroup is open to children aged 0–5 years and runs every Thursday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the CPS Library.

Playgroup offers so much more than just play—it’s an important stepping stone in your child’s early development and a wonderful way for families in our community to come together.

For Children, Playgroup Supports:

Social and emotional development

Activities and conversations with children to help them learn to express themselves, share, take turns, and build friendships.

Activities may include: Playing in groups, learning to say “please” and “thank you,” managing big feelings like frustration or excitement.

Language and communication skills

Encouraging early language through stories, songs, and interaction with peers and adults.

Activities may include: Singing nursery rhymes, listening to picture books, using words to ask for a toy or describe what they’re doing.

Creativity and problem-solving through play

Open-ended play encourages children to think outside the box, make decisions, and solve problems.

Activities may include: Building with blocks, working out how to balance objects, creating a craft with limited materials, or making up imaginative games like “shops” or “doctors.”

Confidence in a safe, familiar environment

A supportive, familiar setting helps children feel secure and confident to try new things.

Our Playgroup is run in the school library with activities purposely set out to encourage play in a safe environment.

A smooth transition into school settings

Exposure to routines, group settings, and structured activities prepares children for a school environment.

Activities may include Participating in circle time, following simple instructions, packing up toys, or sitting for a snack break.
